NAIOMT 800/LEVEL IV - 2008 -- Advanced Knowledge and Skills In Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy
The course will advance the orthopaedic manual physical therapist's skills in applied biomechanics, advanced clinical analysis, risk analysis, integration of
evidence-assisted practice, safety checks,efficient assessment, locking and focusing techniques and utilization of mobilization/ manipulation interventions, including high velocity low amplitude techniques (HVLAT/thrust) to the spine, thorax, upper cervical, costal and pelvic joints in complex situations. The course will include directed home study and pre-reading materials.
NAIOMT 800/Level IV Pre-requisites:
- Current license in physical therapy
- One of the following:
- Successful completion of all three parts of NAIOMT Level III Intermediate Certification (written, case histories, oral practical).
- Successful completion of Andrew's University NAIOMT courses I-III and all associated written exams and case histories; and passing an Andrew's University manual skills proficiency evaluation.
- Completion of NAIOMT Level III courses (700 & 710), successful completion of LIII intermediate written and case history examinations, and pass a NAIOMT pre 800/Level IV test*.
- Equivalent certification** and pass a NAIOMT pre 800/level IV test*.
*Pre-test for 800/Level IV
The pre-test will be determined by the instructor of the 800/Level IV course that the participant wishes to attend.
The test includes critical safety skills and knowledge examined in the NAIOMT LIII intermediate oral-practical examination that are considered essential for the candidate to have acquired prior to attending the NAIOMT 800/Level IV course.
**Equivalent certification
Equivalent certification will be successful completion of an Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy (OMPT) program that has been approved by an IFOMT member organization (MO). Copy of the OMPT certificate will be required.
There is no exception to the requirements above, except with the express written permission of both the NAIOMT Executive Committee and the faculty teaching the course. The permission must be obtained before the course and presented to the Site Coordinator.
